Following positive discussions that commenced early in 2019, EconetiQ are excited to announce a partnership with Co Cars to deliver and manage their EV charge point network to enable EV car sharing.   As part of the partnership, EconetiQ will fund, own and operate the co-cars network of EV charging infrastructure with a target 50 units to be installed over 2021.  EconetiQ also acquired the seven Exeter based Co Cars EV chargers located in central Exeter as part of the deal.

Richard Clarke of Econetiq said “EconetiQ are certainly excited by the opportunity presented by the collaboration with Co-Cars as we look to take forward sites in Yeovil, Bude, Salisbury and East Devon building low carbon car sharing in the South West”.

About Co Cars

Launched in 2005, Co Cars is the hire-by-the-hour car club for Exeter and the wider South West, for people, communities and organisations.  The business recently raised £600k to grow its shared mobility initiatives.  The co-operative has over 1200 active members who have reported a 30% reduction in car use, a 15% reduction in travel costs and a 20% increase in walking and cycling.  It runs the biggest car club fleet of low emission petrol, hybrid and electric vehicles in the area, as well as operating Co Bikes, the UK’s first on-street, city-wide, electric bike network.

Co Cars is a shared mobility provider that offers low/zero emission cars, e-bikes, e-cargo bikes and vans within Exeter plus cars at locations across the South West. The company is growing rapidly, particularly across its electric fleet which sees the highest utilisation, and it will be commencing operations at a number of new locations across 2021.

Co Cars’ growth is driven by partnering with local authorities, large employers, public transport providers and, most successfully, with property developers. Here, they are able to provide end to end support on everything from assessing demand, pre and master planning to developing bespoke travel packages tailored to each location’s requirements.

The company’s ethos and product offering are a natural fit for Econetiq’s charging solutions. Together, each enhances the other’s offer when working with local authorities and property developers by offering them a turnkey solution that covers both charging infrastructure and shared mobility solutions for the direct benefit of residents.
